FAQ #354

Upgrading Storage on the NVSPRO 4U JBOD

When upgrading storage and adding drives to a NVSPRO 4U JBOD, the system will not immediately recognize the newly-installed drives. Access the controller card's web manager on your recorder to initialize, configure, and partition your new drives. To do this, you will need to operate your recorder in Windows mode.

Accessing Windows Mode on Your Recorder:

  1. Log in to your recorder as an administrator.

  2. Click Exit.

  3. Select Restart in Windows Mode.

  4. Click OK.

Accessing High Point In-Ban Management:

  1. Click Start.

  2. Click All Programs.

  3. Click HighPoint In-Band Management Software.

  4. Click HighPoint In-Band Management.

  5. Click the IP address in the Access URL field.

  6. Type the User Name and Password

    1. User Name: RAID

    2. Password: hpt

    3. Note: User Name and Password are case-sensitive.

    Initializing the Drives:

    1. Click Manage, and then click Device.

    2. Click Initialize Devices.

    3. Select the drives you want to initialize, or click Select All.

    4. Click Submit.

    5. A warning message will appear: "All data on the array you selected will be deleted. Do you want to continue?" Click OK to continue.

    Configure the Array:

Note: Each drive must be configured individually.

    1. Click Manage, and then click Array.

    2. Click Create Array.

    3. Set the Array Type to JBOD.

    4. Assign an Array Name as desired.

    5. Select Quick Int for the Initialization Method.

    6. Set Cache Policy to Write Back.

    7. Select the drive you are configuring.

    8. By default, the Capacity is set to Maximum. This should remain.

    9. Set the Sector Size to 4K.

    10. Click Create.

    11. Click OK.

    Partitioning the Drives:

    Convert Storage Drive to GPT

    1. On the Windows desktop, right-click Computer and click Manage.

    2. Click Disk Management.

    3. If you are adding a hard drive that is 3TB or higher, select GPT (GUID Partition Table) and then click OK. If you are adding a hard drive that is lower than 3TB, select MBR (Master Boot Record) and then click OK.

Note: If you do not see a prompt to initialize with GPT, right-click the disk properties box and click Convert to GPT Disk. If this is not an option, the disk is already configured for GPT, and you can proceed to partition the hard drive.

    2. Right-Click the unallocated space on Disk 1 and select New Simple Volume.

    4. Click Next again.

    5. Assign the drive a name if desired and click Next.

    6. Set File System to NTFS.

    7. Set Allocation Unit Size to 64K.

    8. Set Volume Label to DVR.

    9. Select Perform a Quick Format and click Next.
